Life Cycle Assessment
TCR ADVANCED PRO 0D DI:
The Industry’s First Carbon Fiber Road Bike with a Certified Carbon Footprint Label
Bicycles are often celebrated as the ideal eco-friendly mode of transport and a key solution for advancing green mobility. Yet to truly understand their environmental benefits, it’s essential to quantify their carbon footprint—evaluating emissions generated throughout a product’s entire life cycle, from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal. Through this approach, we can identify the most impactful emission sources and find opportunities to reduce them.
The TCR ADVANCED PRO 0D DI, one of Giant brand’s best-selling carbon fiber road bikes, is now also a sustainability milestone—it is the first carbon fiber bike in the industry to earn an official carbon footprint label.
Cradle-to-Grave Accounting: Over 3,600 Emission Activities Assessed
Giant Group conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the TCR ADVANCED PRO 0D DI, following international standards ISO 14067, ISO 14040, and ISO 14044, along with the Carbon Footprint Product Category Rules (CFP-PCR). The assessment covered five key stages:
1) materials acquisition, 2) manufacturing, 3) transportation and distribution, 4) product usage, and 5) disposal.
This LCA provided a comprehensive picture of the energy use, emissions, resource consumption, and waste generation associated with the product.
In total, more than 3,600 emission-related activities were evaluated. The TCR ADVANCED PRO 0D DI was found to have a weighted average carbon footprint of 245.24 kg CO₂e. The materials acquisition stage contributed approximately 58% of total emissions, followed by manufacturing at 38%, with the remaining 4% distributed across downstream phases. The three largest emission hotspots identified were:
1. Carbon fiber materials
2. Aluminum alloy materials
3. Electricity consumption
We prioritized targeted strategies to reduce emissions in these key areas and have begun implementing improvements across our operations and supply chain.
Industry First: A Certified Carbon Footprint Label
After completing the product carbon footprint assessment, Giant Group engaged third-party verifier AFNOR Asia Ltd.—an internationally recognized certification body—to verify the results. The product passed verification and received an official carbon footprint declaration, enabling us to apply for and earn the Carbon Footprint Label issued by Taiwan’s Ministry of Environment.
This recognition makes the TCR ADVANCED PRO 0D DI the first carbon fiber road bike in the industry to carry a certified carbon footprint label. It also signifies that the product has undergone one of the most thorough carbon accounting processes in the bicycle industry to date.
The Carbon Footprint Label helps disclose the total greenhouse gas emissions generated throughout a product’s life cycle. It increases transparency across each production stage and encourages manufacturers to redesign high-emission processes, while also empowering consumers to make more climate-conscious choices.
This carbon footprint assessment of the TCR ADVANCED PRO 0D DI includes detailed documentation of its full life cycle and manufacturing activities. It not only sets a benchmark for evaluating the carbon footprint of other bicycle models but also offers valuable guidance for future product development. Most importantly, it marks a key step forward in Giant Group’s broader sustainability journey.
Reducing 40kg of CO2 Emissions per Bike by 2030
As a global leader in the bicycle industry, we recognize our responsibility to enhance sustainability awareness among our suppliers and communicate our progress to customers. By 2030, we aim to reduce CO2 emissions by 40kg per bicycle, achieve 100% plastic-free packaging, increase revenue from services and repairs to 26%, and integrate recycled and recyclable materials as part of our broader ESG strategy.
To reach these targets, we launched the A TRAIL TO ZERO campaign in 2024, demonstrating our commitment to tangible carbon reduction actions and sharing our progress with consumers. That same year, we introduced the Enviro Mark, helping consumers easily identify products made with low-carbon or eco-friendly materials. (Visit the Full List of Enviro Products)

We believe collaboration across the entire value chain is key to driving a low-carbon transition in the cycling industry. The carbon footprint label not only enables us to better understand our emissions across all life cycle stages—it also inspires change throughout the supply chain by spotlighting areas for improvement.
On the consumer side, the label empowers people to make environmentally informed choices in their everyday lives. It raises awareness of the climate impact behind each purchase, turning sustainability from a concept into a personal action.
Together, we can take meaningful steps to combat climate change and shape a more sustainable future for the planet—one bike at a time.
